[Final Exam] Challenges and Opportunities of Online Learning
The globe was horrified at the start of 2020 by a fatal outbreak, Corona Virus Disease, also known as COVID-19. Starting in China, the corona virus soon spread to practically every country on the planet. Many deaths were reported in practically every region of Indonesia. Of course, this is upsetting for everyone. COVID-19 has had an impact on the world of education. Learning changed massively in an instant. Learning that begins in person or face-to-face must be completed online or via distance learning from home. This creates new difficulties and opportunities for educators and students.
Today's
educational environment has enabled technology to carry out the teaching and
learning process. To get knowledge, we don't have to bother looking for
reference books in bookshops or libraries, which takes a long time and requires
money to purchase the book. With a cellphone and an internet connection, anyone
could easily use it to discover learning materials on the internet. E-Learning
refers to online learning. This can be accomplished through interactive video
conversations or by delivering digital course content. Learning can be done
remotely with a digital-based learning system. Furthermore, students can access
teaching materials at any time and from any location.
The
benefits of digital-based learning include the fact that it is an effective,
rapid, and credible communication medium for providing e-learning information
from educators (teachers or lecturers), that it covers a broad area, and that
it can be accessed at any time and from any location. As a result, this
digital-based learning is worldwide and accessible from any location. This
digital-based learning reduces time and place constraints associated with
typical classroom characteristics by utilizing communication modalities such as
email and online conversations, which students may access 24 hours a day.
In addition to the benefits of digital-based
learning, there are also drawbacks, such as the tendency to disregard academic
or social components, the changing role of teachers, and what was once thought
to be the only source of learning. Furthermore, students who lack high learning
motivation are more likely to fail since they are more dominated by a sense of
laziness to learn new things. Next, in our area, not all locations have
internet access, therefore this digital-based learning will be impeded by the
lack of an online network. The second disadvantage is a lack of interaction
between teachers and students, as well as among students themselves. This
absence of engagement might hamper value building in the teaching and learning
process.
The COVID-19 pandemic causes a variety of
difficulties and hurdles in many areas of life, including education. Diverse
challenges and limitations encountered in the field of education have given
rise to various forms of learning innovation at various levels of education. As
a result, it is possible to infer that the events of the corona outbreak not
only exposed humanity to new obstacles, but also created new opportunities for
the growth of creativity and innovation in the field of education, particularly
the learning element. Creativity and learning innovation in the digital age
will produce quality graduates because they have been able to transform the
challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic into opportunities for the emergence of
various creativity and innovations in the field of education, particularly the
learning aspect.
